Cosa crea sculture di polvere cosmica nella Nebulosa Rosetta? Celebre per la sua bellezza, per la sua forma complessiva, questa parte della Nebulosa Rosetta, nota anche come NGC 2244, mostra il suo fascino anche vista da vicino. Sono visibili globuli di polvere scura e gas che vengono lentamente erosi via dalla luce energica e venti dalle vicine stelle massicce. Lasciati soli abbastanza a lungo, i globuli di nubi molecolari potrebbero probabilmente formare stelle e pianeti. L'immagine qui sopra è stata realizzata con colori molto particolari unendo riprese in banda larga RGB a riprese in banda stretta nella linea di emissione dell'Idrogeno (Ha) e dell'Ossigeno (OIII). La Nebulosa Rosetta si estende su circa 50 anni luce, si trova a circa 4.500 anni luce di distanza, e può essere osservata con un piccolo telescopio verso la costellazione dell'Unicorno (Monoceros).

What creates the cosmic dust sculptures in the Rosette Nebula? Noted for the common beauty of its overall shape, parts of the Rosette Nebula, also known as NGC 2244, show beauty even when viewed up close. Visible above are globules of dark dust and gas that are slowly being eroded away by the energetic light and winds by nearby massive stars. Left alone long enough, the molecular-cloud globules would likely form stars and planets. The above image was taken in very specific colors of Hydrogen (Ha) and Oxygen (OIII) with narrowband filter, added to RGB broadband channels. The Rosette Nebula spans about 50 light-years across, lies about 4,500 light-years away, and can be seen with a small telescope towards the constellation of the Unicorn (Monoceros).
